WOOF! Tales

Based on the Central Independent Television series, these books are about the adventures of Eric the schoolboy, who is never certain at what moment he will turn into Eric the dog.

First your neck starts to itch, then your nose turns cold and wet, then hair sprouts on your hands and before you know it you’ve got paws and a wagging tail – you’re a dog. It is not anybody who gets a chance to round up sheep, appear in a dog food advert and be a competitor at Crufts.

Woof! The Tale Wags On

“This is the first collection of stories taken from the television series I wrote with my friend Richard Fegen about a boy who turns into a dog. The series was based on characters in a lovely book by Allan Ahlberg (Woof!) and ran very successfully for a good few years.

Eric Banks has no control over when he turns into a dog or for how long. He finds it a mixture of adventure and embarrassment (when he turns back into a boy, he’s got no clothes) and I had more fun working on these stories of what he gets up to with his friend Roy Ackerman than almost anything else I’ve done.”  Andrew Norriss

Woof! The Tale Gets Longer

“This is the second collection of stories taken from the television series I wrote with my friend Richard Fegen about a boy who turns into a dog. The series was based on characters in a lovely book by Allan Ahlberg (Woof!) and ran very successfully for a good few years.

By this time, the boy who played Eric’s friend was too big to be a convincing eleven year old, so we had to invent someone new – Rachel Hobbs. I think my favourite story was the one where Miss Priskett tries to shoot Eric-as-a-dog with an air rifle, because she thinks he ate her cat and Rachel is the one who comes to the rescue… But I liked them all! Andrew Norriss

Woof! A Twist In The Tale

“This is the third collection of stories taken from the television series I wrote with my friend Richard Fegen about a boy who turns into a dog. The series was based on characters in a lovely book by Allan Ahlberg (Woof!) and ran very successfully for a good few years.

So these are more adventures of Eric Banks and his friend Rachel. He gets locked overnight in a store, tries to win the school cup for rugby, gets lost on a school trip – all things that could happen to anyone – but when you’ve turned into a dog at the time… Goodness, I thought these were fun!” Andrew Norriss
